FESTIVAL CENTRE – Creating the Character

This exhibition, curated by the Performing Arts Collection, showcases the work of Australian stage designers, such as Sue Russell, Tess Schofield, Dean Hills, Paul Morisset, Bronwyn Jones, Tony Graham and Luciana Arrighi who won an Oscar for her designs for Howard’s End.

OZ ASIA – Fund and Red Sorghum – Announcements

Adelaide Festival Centre today announced the launch of the OzAsia Festival Fund along with the Australian premiere and exclusive performance of Red Sorghum by Qingdao Song and Dance Theatre Company, an exquisite dance drama from Shandong for the opening weekend of the 2014 OzAsia Festival.

FRINGE – Illuminate – Croquet Club – 4K

This Melbourne based crew’s tweak of the circus staples is to play with light, how the strong man, the juggling, the high wire and gymnastics get lit. And they do it very well. 4K

FRINGE – The Bryce is Right – The Prom – 4K

This is a cabaret star in the making with a strength of voice, obvious chutzpah and a song writing ability that produces tunes that sound eerily of Sondheim and his like. 4K

FRINGE – Circus – Trash Test Dummies – 4K and Luminous – 4K

The Dummies are three likely lads who smash the crap out of wheelie bins in a rollicking sixty minutes of mayhem, ideal for both children as well as adults. 4K Luminous is sure to be one of the highlights of the 2014 Fringe circus acts and as it’s in a small venue, be sure to book ahead to avoid disappointment. 4K

FRINGE – Pirate Pantomonium on the Popeye – Presented by On the Fly Impro

This high seas adventure is appropriate for children aged between 3-9 and they are encouraged to dress up as pirates and sailors for this interactive experience.

FRINGE – Alex Willamson – 3K

After 60 minutes of Alex’s rat-a-tat delivery and a couple of songs , there was not much about the wasted youth genre left to the imagination with lots of gags about going the biff and spacing out on all manner of banned substances. 3K

FRINGE – Paul McDermott – The Dark Garden – 3.5K

Inspired by the death of a close friend, McDermott and his three piece backing players takes us through songs about the five stages of grief. 3.5K

FRINGE – Alex Frayne – In Dreams – Fisher Jeffries Foyer – 4K

Many photographers, like other visual artists, seem content or determined to be only known by one style, but Frayne constantly pushes the boundaries and this exhibition highlights his inventiveness. 4K

MUSIC – Lior and Westlake – Festival Theatre – 4.5K

Compassion is a work that deserves its initial rave reviews when first performed last year at the Sydney Opera House. 4.5K
