THE CHANGING FACE OF THE FRINGE – INTERSTATE COMEDIANS RULE SUPREME

By genre, the biggest increase in the Fringe over the past two years is unquestionably Comedy, with Show numbers up a huge 75%, accounting for over 60% of the entire growth in the Fringe over that time. Comedy now accounts for just over 50% of all Shows.

FESTIVAL – 2001 A Space Odyssey – 3K or 5K

So, trying to rate this show provides a conundrum. As a musical concert, it was a bit ho-hum – 3Ks but as an event; those who were there or who get along tonight will find they will be remembering it long after the Festival circus has left town – somehow it was very compelling – on this score a 5K rating applies.

ADELAIDE OVAL – THE INEVITABLE FIASCO STARTS TO EMERGE FOR THE PUBLIC

What has brought this to a head of course is the failure of the SMA’s marketing campaign to sell its Ultimate and corporate packages. The problem this whole thing has and which even Premier Rann recognised back in 2009 is that there is no agreement on anything much between any of the parties.

FESTIVAL – What The Body Does Not Remember – Ultimate Vez – 4.5K

For modern or contemporary dance fans, this master work is a must. 4.5K

FESTIVAL – Murder – Erth – 3.5K

To be sure, audiences need to be ready for Murder (and not just well hydrated) with its complexities, strobe lighting and the like but Erth has produced a memorable production that will reward your indulgence. 3.5K

FRINGE 2013 – Helpmann Academy Grad Exhibition – Drill Hall – 3.5K

As always, there is much to admire and be fascinated by in this annual exhibition of Graduate artist works. 3.5K

FRINGE 2013 – The Saints of British Rock – 3.5K

It is doubtful that any production will rival the film, Spinal Tap, as the greatest rock’n’roll spoof of all time but the Saints of British Rock provide great fun in having a go. All great fun and older Fringe goers will find plenty to enjoy. 3.5K

FRINGE 2013 – Desperately Seeking The Exit – Austral – 3.5K

This tell all is a compelling and thoroughly enjoyable story. 3.5K

FRINGE 2013 – East, Woman Shifting on the Time Axis – Garage – 3K

The Taiwanese performing arts group have spectacular technique delivering a professional performance. This work is very inline with a neo classical style of contemporary dance. 3K

FRINGE 2013 – Le Foulard – Tuxedo Cat – 5K

This was a wonderful show which left you laughing and engaged! This is ‘a not to miss show’. 5K
