Quintette was a spectacular concluding performance to the Adelaide International Guitar Festival, a unique opportunity to see our own celebrated Australian String Quartet perform with a line-up of stellar international guitarists.

Adel Guitar Festival – Spirit of Flamenco – 4.5K

The Spirit of Flamenco channeled the sounds of the Gitano perfectly with a unique style that could only be seen outside of Spain. 4.5K

ASO – Mahler’s 7th Symphony

The ASO provided a superb execution of what is undoubtedly a truly demanding work. The orchestra’s ability was well exhibited; Mahler’s technically awkward, avant-garde themes and use of musical extremities tested each instrumentalist.

Adelaide Guitar Festival – The Seasons – 5K

The overall effect saw the audience being led away into a timeless world where now and again the hairs bristled on the back of the neck as the audience hung onto every note and every audible meaning regardless of the language barrier.

ASO – Mahler – The Song of the Earth

The ASO’s eight year Mahler Cycle project is in its penultimate phase with two works this year before the epic journey concludes in 2013. Saturday evening’s Das Lied Von Der Erde (The Song of the Earth) certainly suggests the project will end as another landmark for the ASO.

MUSIC – Speak Up 2012 – The Gov – 15 Sept

The bands, Acoustic Highway, The Black Iris and Chris Finnen’s New Electric Band, will play old and new favourites, and the MC will be well known presenter Xavier Minniecon at this year’s Speak Up in aid of those affected by mental illness. See post for details.
