RAW: Eddie Ifft @ Mercury

Not for the faint of heart, this show documents some of the more ‘foot-in-mouth’ moment’s of Ifft’s life that would make even the most awkward of us feel good about ourselves.

While at times appearing overly forced, it is a brand of confident humour in search of an “oh no he di-n’t!” response from the audience. Saying this, he is successful in doing so, covering topics including ‘bloodfarts’, homosexuality, drunk pilots, midgets and of course the c-bomb, without taking a backward step.

Don’t bring Grandma, and don’t dress like a dick if you’re going to sit in the front row.

RAW: Sound & Fury’s Private Dick

Talented theatrical trio Richard, Shelby and Jonathan are Sound & Fury, dedicated to parody.

Playing with ‘film noir’ conventions, it’s clear these guys know the meaning of fun. Occasionally singing, dancing, improvising, breaking down the “fourth wall” and/or breaking character, these three enthrall their audience.

Private Dick, which in essence is the sixty solid minutes of dirty double entendres, also features cross-dressing dames and nonsensical names.

If you find your mind is already in the gutter, get to this show at Le Cascadeur before 28 Feb. If not, let Sound & Fury drag you there… you won’t regret it! ;)

RAW: The Funny Side of Prestidigitation

Illusionist PiP and reluctant assistant Miss Olivia are supposed to be comical…

Have to be honest and say, can’t see that as being the truth. I reckon a street performing magician would do better.

Usually if the magic tricks are blatantly obvious, the humour really strikes a chord. Unfortunately in this instance, neither the tricks nor the comic routine stand up.

Mind you the drunker of the crowd seemed to be amazed by PiP, or maybe they were just taking the piss.

This overpriced, unprofessional magic show is on at Caos Bar & Cafe on Hindley Street until 5th March.

RAW: Lindsay Webb – Hurry Up Jesus

So wasn’t sure what to expect from this show, was it going to be a bible bash to the head or a guy just waiting on stage for the J man.

Lucky for me it was neither. Lindsay Webb essentially picked up the bible (and all things religious) and poked hole after hole in it. Sure it’s an insensitive show if you are a devoted Christian (esp. Catholic or Mormon), but for those of us going to the heathen already, it’s a great laugh.

Engaging, Lindsay pushes the boundaries of religion, but actively gauges our response and never steps the line.

Genuinely funny, Lindsay managed to keep it to an hour – he’s the Guinness World Record Holder for Longest Stand Up Show by an Individual at a cool 38hrs & 6min! Lucky he’s funny, else that would have been torture for the audience. :P

>> Catch Hurry Up Jesus at the Maid, just out of the city at Magill & Payneham Roads, before 14th March to catch this funny fella!

RAW: Marcel Lucont @ The Tuxedo Cat

Red wine, prostitutes, the C word, accordion, french attitude and honest interaction with the audience.

Though I hate to use comparisons – he’s essentially the French Dylan Moran – Don’t take Grandma (unless she’s one of those funky Grandmas who rides skateboards in commercials and can handle a spot of foul language!)

Good fun but an acquired taste.

RAW: Francesca Martinez

More social commentator than comedian, Martinez performs at the humble art space: Tuxedo Cat – Attic.

Amusing as her commentary about being ‘wobbly’ (she has cerebral palsy) and her life to date is, the show only manages a couple of giggles. She engages the audience well enough, as her material somewhat universal. However, she seems overly reliant on her ‘condition’ to see the show through.

The show feels more like you’re sitting with Martinez at a cafe, having a coffee and chatting about her life. Her stories often take a tangent, but she always returns to the main thread of conversation.

On until 7th March, I would have expected more laughs from this star, who has starred in Ricky Gervais’ Extras and appeared at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival.

RAW: Justin Hamilton – Idiot Man Child

It’s hard to hate people, even harder to hate Justin!

Witty fella Justin returns to Adelaide, to his roots even, stand up comedy. Absent for the past few Fringes, Justin (or Hammo) is back with an all-new show, premiering in his own hometown.

His on-stage charisma oozes charm and mischief. His animated smart-arse satire guarantees sixty minutes of smiles.

Get to Hammo’s Happy Hour at the Fingerknuckle Nightclub… I mean, Le Cascadeur. ;)
