RAW: Animals, Aliens & Vegetables @ Ambar Lounge
Pity some shows dont run on time. Faced with incredible crowds in the Garden for a later show, I was forced to abandon Animals, Aliens & Vegtables a half hour after it was meant to start and I was still waiting, being told that the show was ‘being set up’.

RAW: ADT’s Ignition Til 21st August

Put simply, this is phenomenal. You couldn’t ask for more from a theme which encourages the choreographers to go beyond rhythmic movement and consider every act – whether as simple as walking and talking – a form of dance. 4K
RAW: SALA – Exhibition of Happiness – Kirsty Shadiac – Tin Cat Cafe – 4.5K

Clearly one of the most successful exhibitions at this year’s SALA is that of returned local girl, Kirsty Shadiac and her most engaging images of children sharing moments of pleasure. 4.5K
RAW; Cairo Time Film Review – 2K

All in all, it’s a terribly dull film that plods along with lingering gazes, conversations and scenery, and garners the rather dubious title of the dullest opening ten minutes in film. 2K

RAW: SALA – Bill Botten’s Abstract Paintings – The Maid – 4K

Since first exhibiting five years ago, Bill Botten’s work continues to develop with particular emphasis on single subjects or styles within his genre of artworks with that reflective mood. 4K
RAW: SALA – X-HIBIT By Simon Klobas – Gallery on Waymouth
about 14 years ago - Comments Off
Simon Klobas is the force behind this initiative to have some of Adelaide’s young and upcoming artists exhibit before their peers in a relaxed club atmosphere – to enjoy art in an opening night spirit but without the art nobs. His first night certainly suggested the idea has legs.
RAW: SALA – Sudhira Shah – SSStudio – Rundle St, Kent Town – 4K

Sudhira Shah brings a life and enjoyment to her finished works that leap from the paper, images of spontaneity that make you want to be like those featured. 4K
RAW: Romeo & Juliet – Playhouse – Till 29th Aug – 4K
about 14 years ago - Comments Off
The State Theatre Company has put together an interesting, intelligent and thoroughly entertaining modern adaptation of Romeo and Juliet that follows its own path and much independence as a result. A lot of people would feel less inclined to see this famous play if they’ve seen it (or even one of the film versions) before, but they’ve created something unique in itself and definitely worth experiencing. 4K
RAW: SALA – Our Mob – Artspace / Fest Theatre – Till 5 Sept – 4K

There are at least two stand-out feature works that certainly warrant the time to visit. Major Sumner’s Tree Canoe sits in the midst of the works resting on sand on the floor. Beaver Lennon’s Break of Dawn (attached above) is notable as the winner of the Inaugural SA Indigenous Acquisitive Art Award. 4K
RAW: Splice – 2K

If you are after a primer on the challenges of raising children then other films do a lot better. If you are interested in the clash of ethics between the scientific, commercial and domestic worlds, then this offers zero insights. If you love Frankenstein style Sci Fi flicks and can suspend reality for 2 hours, Splice may be a film for you. 2K

We also waited long after the show was to start, also being told that the show was ‘setting up’. We should have walked then but our curiosity won out and we waited. Turns out the waiting was more entertaining than the show. The show was crap from start to finish. Not funny in any sense of the word. Absolute shit actually. No-one laughed. Everyone (well all 5 audience members) were aghast that this had made it in as a Fringe event. I wanted to leave after 5 minutes but as the comedian was doing his ‘bit’ in the doorway, we were all trapped for the whole 25 minutes or so. I was ripped off at the rush ticket price of $10. So hope no-one has paid full price for this. Monika from the post above, be very relieved that you left before you saw this. You missed nothing and I can’t stress the nothing enough!

Just a note, the Fringe doesn’t choose what gets in. Anyone can take part in the Fringe and that means there’ll be some good things and some bad things. Audiences sometimes have to take a chance on things they know nothing about – sometimes that pays off, sometimes it doesn’t. It’s what the Fringe is all about.
