Adelaide Festival Centre’s Sessions welcomes back favourites of WOMADelaide 2011, Asa and Féfé, in two intimate So Frenchy So Chic Live! performances on January 19.
Appearing in the Space Theatre, these two internationally acclaimed artists from France will transform the Sessions music club into a frenzy of feel-good moments.
Raised in Lagos but now a rising star in France, Asa is the strident new voice of modern folk. Unafraid to tackle serious issues with intelligence and confidence, this charismatic songstress is inspired by the sounds of Marvin Gaye, Fela Kuti, Bob Marley, Sunny Ade and Ebenezer Obey. Asa will deliver an up close and personal set fusing contemporary soul, pop, reggae and funk with her trademark husky voice.
“When she gets her jazz groove on in Bimpé and Be My Man, you wish the songs would never end.” The Guardian
Born in France to Nigerian parents, Féfé was a founding member of French hip-hop collective Saian Supa Crew. Recently having made his solo debut, Féfé has busted the boundaries of traditional hip-hop, weaving his style of rap through funk, soul, blues and catchy pop. Renowned for his explosive live sets that get crowds jumping, Féfé will return with a brand new show.
“He has that Michael Franti factor when it comes to manipulating thousands of punters into shaking their booty.” The Australian
So Frenchy So Chic Live! will also be touring in other states with shows in Melbourne (15 January), Parramatta (17 January), Sydney (18 January) and Asa will also be performing in Brisbane (20 January).
Asa and Féfé will both perform as part of Adelaide Festival Centre’s brand new summer music season in January, Sessions.
Sessions is focused on live music from local, national and international bands in a relaxed club atmosphere. Other acts announced for Sessions include Hanggai, Dan Deacon Ensemble, Mountain Mocha Kilimanjaro, Sons and Daughters, Sueño Flamenco, Mike Stewart Big Band, Caliente Guitar Trio & The Baker Suite, The Idea of North, Wendy Matthews, Zephyr Quartet, The Unnatural Congress of Still Beating Hearts, Julianna Barwick, Casey Donovan, Adam Page and Shaolin Afronauts.
