Following screenings at the iconic Bondi Beach pavilion in January, Flickerfest has hit the road and is bringing the best short films from Australia and abroad to The Mercury Cinema on 3 and 4 February 2012.

Flickerfest is Australia’s largest and most respected short film competition and this year celebrates its 21st birthday.  What better way to celebrate than by screening 100 short films handpicked from a record 2200 entries from filmmakers! Flickerfest films are entertaining, inspiring, and highly creative and include Academy Award nominees plus many other internationally award-winning films.

Best of International Shorts, screening Friday 3 February, includes two 2012 Academy Awards short list nominees- I Could Be Your Grandmother, a moving and humorous film from France, and from Germany, Raju, which follows a couple’s journey to India to collect their adopted child. Also sharing the screen for its SA premiere is the hilarious local production A Tale of Obsession.

Best Of Australian Shorts, screening on Saturday 4 February, showcases our amazing Australian filmmaking talents. Highlights include the hilarious Fish & Chips, a story about a young Pauline Hansen who goes on Chef Of The Universe to cook against Barry, Kim & Vlad; AACTA awarded animation Nullarbor, and South Australian productions, The Moment and Death of a Bogan.

Flickerfest’s Festival Director Bronwyn Kidd said “Flickerfest is thrilled to be a platform for the most compelling entertaining and innovative short cinema the world has to offer, through celebrating and discovering the latest in short film talent and bringing their stories to our screens we are proud to share this amazing story telling with Australian audiences.”

Over the past twenty one years, Flickerfest has provided a platform for scores of talented Australian filmmakers many of whom have gone on to attain national and international success with their feature films. This year’s impressive and unprecedented number of contenders confirms Flickerfest status as Australia’s only Academy Accredited and BAFTA recognised short film festival.

Come to The Mercury and see Flickerfest and an amazing selection of global bite sized chunks of great cinema in Adelaide this February!
