The Timbers are a four-piece folk band first formed in Adelaide during 2009 and consisting of Craig Atkins, Simon Bassey, Sarah O’Brien and Benjamin Roberts. The music of these talented and passionate musicians is a mixture of folk, roots and Celtic bushman punk and incorporates a vast range of instruments such as guitar, violin, tin whistle, djembe and didgeridoo. As well as selling out shows in Adelaide, The Timbers have played countless music festivals both here and interstate and toured extensively throughout Victoria and Tasmania. With a dedicated fan base that continues to grow with every gig, The Timbers appeal to young and old audiences alike with their distinctive brand of passionate, energetic folk-roots music and raucous live performances.
Following the release of their debut EP Greet the Sun in March 2011, The Timbers are back in Adelaide this May for the release of the first single from their upcoming self-titled EP, which will be released later this year. Titled Into the Forest, the single will be officially launched at the Crown and Anchor Hotel on Friday May 18th.
Into the Forest leads its listeners on an intense, energetic chase throughout a land soaked in the sweat of bushrangers. Both a tense pursuit and inspiring call-to-arms, Into the Forest encapsulates all the passion, energy, skill and talent of The Timbers. As a first single it is full of promise as to their upcoming self-titled EP – there is no doubt we will again be charmed by the atmospheric lyrics and vigorous harmonies so distinctive of The Timbers.
Renowned local filmmakers Matthew Hill and Steve O’Connor of Highlane Films have also been working with The Timbers to produce a film clip for Into the Forest. This film clip will be available online from May 18th at www.youtube.com/thetimbersband, while Into the Forest will be available for download from May 1st at www.triplejunearthed.com.au/thetimbers.
A pleasure to the imagination in digital form and an absolute treat to the senses in the flesh, The Timbers are heading for a bright future. Their energetic yet enigmatic folk-roots style and the sheer energy and skill of their performances make for a truly inspiring band. It is artists like these who remind us of the talent of Australian musicians, and who make the future a pleasure to look forward to.
